travel oslo

Last Friday my travel started, my first stop being Oslo. I arrived around 1pm. After taking the train, walking to my hostel and checking in, I walked around the city for quite some time. Sadly the weather wasn’t that good, cloudy and a bit of rain. I first walked towards Grünerløkka, a neighborhood near the place I was staying. There were lots of colorful buildings, places to eat and stores.

Later on I headed towards Karls Johans gate, the main street of the city. It was a beautiful street with stores and cafes. I just walked around there for a bit, brought breakfast and sat down in a park that was near the street. It surprised me that it wasn’t that crowded. But maybe that was because of the weather, or the fact that I went there quite early in the morning. If you walk down the whole street, you’ll end up at the Royal Palace.

So that’s what I did. It was a gorgeous view, seeing the Royal Palace from a distance. There even was some snow, which you can see in the picture. There wasn’t much to see or do around the Palace, but there was a park behind it. A perfect place to eat your lunch or just relax for some time. As I said before, I wasn’t lucky with the weather so I just continued my walk towards Aker Brygge.

On the next day I went to the Parliament Building. I did some research on the internet and found out that they organize guided tours on Saturday, for free yay, so I went there. The building itself was beautiful from the inside and outside as well (not the building in the pictures above). The tour was a great way to get more info about the building and how the government in Norway works. After the tour I went to the Oslo City Hall, the building in the pictures. Honestly, I didn’t look up any info about this building, but I was kind of tired so I just sat down inside to rest and enjoyed the lovely paintings and rooms.

Although I only went there for 2 nights, I think I got to see much of the city. I was planning on going to the Vigeland park but because of the weather I decided not to. Maybe another time. I had a great time there and met nice people as well. There will be a article about Oslo on Where Will I Wander Next, but I’m not sure yet when.
