Steal her look: red carpet style queens

Award season is here — and we love it! What better way to shed those winter blues than spending the night snuggled on the sofa watching your favourite A-listers shimmy their way down the red carpet?

Before they even step foot out the door, there are some fashionistas that you just know are going to get it right and secure their spot at the top of the best-dressed list. They’re the seasoned pros: red carpet royalty. They know what works for them right down to the finest detail — but who are they? QUIZ discusses the ladies who can do no wrong:

Blake Lively
Not only is she married to one of Hollywood’s hottest actors, Blake Lively has arguably one of the best track records for nailing red carpet style. We’ve seen her wear it all over the years, from thigh-skimming mini dresses to on-trend jumpsuits.

Her signature look? Blake is the clear queen of the full-length gown. Some of our favourite looks include the geometric black and nude beaded gown she wore to the LA premier of Savages, complete with tumbling Hollywood curls. How about the stunning Gucci plunging yellow maxi she wore to a press event, creating a boho look with chunky bangles, striking turquoise earrings and a fishtail plait?

Whether she’s channelling vintage Hollywood glamour or girl-next-door vibes, Blake always gets it right.

Steal her style: to recreate Blake’s red carpet-ready style, choose classic shapes, such as bandeau and Bardot styles. Style your hair with big and bouncy curls, and finish with simple, sparkly jewellery.

Kendall Jenner
Move over Kim; Kendall Jenner is the new style queen of the Kardashian clan. As a top supermodel, Kendall may have the designer connections, but it’s her poise, sophistication and beauty that helps her rock each and every look.

Perhaps to complement her raven locks, Kendall is a huge fan of wearing black on the red carpet. She’s had some stunning looks to date, including the mesh and black velvet high-neck maxi she wore to the ‘From the Land of the Moon’ Cannes premiere.

How could we forget the high-low Kristian Aadnevik dress Kendall wore to the 2016 MTV Movie Awards with thigh-high, lace-up heels? Even when she’s keeping it simple in a strapless Vivienne Westwood maxi and choker, like she did at the White House Correspondents Dinner, she looks flawless, proving that black doesn’t have to be boring.

Steal her style: play it like Kendall and keep it classic in black. Add subtle detail with lace-up or embroidery detailing, and sweep back your hair to show off your model features.

Zendaya
She might only be 21, but she’s already achieved so much. Alongside a hit TV show, a successful movie career and fashion ventures, Zendaya has already nailed her red carpet look.

Unlike others who may play it safe at award shows, Zendaya isn’t afraid to make a style statement — whether that’s through bright colours or bold prints. All eyes were on her at the 2017 Met Gala, when she wore a vivid yellow, floor-length Bardot gown featuring a gorgeous floral and parrot print. She finished the look with a chic red lip and larger-than-life curls.

She regularly ditches the dresses too in favour of sharp tailoring. At The Humane Society of the United States ‘To The Rescue’ Gala, Zendaya was a vision in hot pink, wearing tailored trousers, jacket and shirt, all in the same rich hue. With her hair slicked back and smouldering eye makeup, she’s our favourite girl boss.

Steal her style: To dress like Zendaya, you need to be totally fearless with colour! Either choose an evening dress in a bold print — florals are a great choice — or select one bright shade and use it to unify your look. A bright co-ord is the perfect choice — create a contrast with your footwear and make sure your makeup is on point.

Selena Gomez
Famous US actress and singer, Selena Gomez, has recently gone through an amazing style transformation that has catapulted her into the big league of fashion. Enlisting the assistance of one of the most influential stylists right now, Kate Young, she’s shaken off the cute Disney sweetheart image and is now rocking an independent style that’s distinctly her.

Selena Gomez is not afraid to take a risk and twist standard styles with a hint of the extraordinary — remember the long-sleeve, satin gown she wore at the Fashion Awards in December 2017? Combining romance, nostalgia and the “prairie spirit”, she gave this traditional-looking dress the X-factor by complementing it with gothic make-up and a wet-look hairstyle.

Since she does dress-down outfits so well — she’s a big fan of scoop-neck dresses, jeans, sneakers, and graphic tops — Selena takes full advantage of her time on the red carpet to show off her eclectic style sense. Whatever the event, she dresses to turn heads. From the rebellious mini leather dress she wore to the latest American Music Awards, to the eye-catching, floor-length gold gown she wore to grace the 2017 Grammy Awards; Selena’s red carpet style is designed to make an impact.

Steal her style: To recreate Selena’s look, you need to decide what impression you want to give and work around that. Floor-trailing sequin dresses can deliver the shimmering, princess effect of the Grammy Awards, or you can go against the grain by rocking a leather or denim dress and pairing it with high heels and a chic clutch, like she did.

Of course, she doesn’t always rely on a dress. At Billboard’s Women in Music awards event, she created a powerful, feminine silhouette in leather pants, open-toe heels and a scalloped strapless top with a chunky gold belt. Exuding a powerful presence and showing the world how it’s not only dresses that are allowed to grace a red carpet, you can replicate Selena’s look by pairing palazzo pants with a bralet or cropped top. Selena admits that accessories are the “whipped cream of an outfit”, so be sure to customise your red-carpet-ready look with jewellery, bags and other accessories.

There you have it — four of QUIZ’s favourite female fashionistas. Inspired? Recreate one of these show-stopping looks at your next special event and make sure it’s all eyes on you!
