They always say that you should look forward instead of looking back. Because, of course, you can’t change what happened in the past. But I’ve done a lot of fun and exciting things in 2016. And looking back on the good things doesn’t hurt, am I right? So here’s an overview of my 2016.
As you might, or might now remember, I had a gap year. So besides work, I had a lot of free time. Visiting friends for lunch or meeting up with bloggers was something that I did a lot. Throughout the whole year actually. In January I went to de ‘Winter Efteling‘ with my friend Michelle. I might want to go again this year. The Efteling is just a wonderful place.
In February my blog turned 4. Which means that my I’ve almost been blogging for 5 years now. The highlight of February was definitely my trip to Disneyland with Anne. So many cool attractions and it really felt like the happiest place on earth. Can I go back please? I also discovered a lot of new lunch places like ‘De Viking‘ in Nijmegen and ‘Nom Nom‘ in Den-Bosch
Just like the year before, I was asked to model during the ArtEZ presentation in Paris. So of course I said yes! The trip to Paris was so fun. It was lovely to help out with the presentation and Paris is just a beautiful city. In March I also went to Elysium with Mirthe which was such a relaxing spa day. And something else I did a lot in March was making lists of things I wanted to do during my gap year travel through the US. It was only a few more weeks until I left, so I must have been very very excited.
Oops, more than 3 pictures for this month, since April (and May), were the most exciting months of 2016, of my life. I left the Netherlands, and flew to Oslo. I stayed there for a few days before I went to New York City! All by myself. Of course I was a bit nervous, but everything went fine! I met the most amazing and inspiring people, and did so much. After 3 weeks in NYC, I went to Philadelphia and stayed with Sarah. A very different city but fun as well. Oh and all the food I ate.. Wish they could deliver it all at my place.
After Philadelphia, it was time to fly to Orlando to stay with family, and also meet them for the first time. It was a wonderful family and they made me feel very welcome. I stayed with them for a couple of days and had a lovely time. My next destination was LA. Venice Beach, hiking, Universal Studios, I saw so much. So many good memories. 7 wonderful days. Then it was time to fly to Honolulu, Hawaii. All I can say is wow. I met amazing people, went to the Cheesecake Factory too many times, ate delicious aai bowls and saw the most amazing beaches.
After a week had passed it was time to go to my next and final destination. San Francisco. While I was there, I met great people and we made a random road trip to Yosemite Park. Such a cool experience. I definitely had the best time of my life those two months.
June felt kind of weird. Being back home after two months of traveling felt so strange. I started going to work again, couldn’t do whatever I wanted and honestly, I was so bored sometimes. Luckily I did do some fun things. There was an blogger event at Zandvoort beach which I attended with Lies. Fleur and I also shot some outfit pictures. Later that month, I got the opportunity to go to Pinkpop festival in collaboration with the new brand Q/S designed by. I took my brother with me which was so fun.
In July it was time to go on another trip, this time with my brothers and parents. We went on a holiday to Spain. I’d been there before, but that was just for a party vacation, so this time I really saw some more of the country and the culture. I especially loved the beautiful medieval towns and the beaches (although I don’t like swimming). Another thing I did was going to an event/festival with my friend Leah. We went to a cocktail workshop, saw some artists perform and tried to go to a laughter workshop, which was terrible haha.
August was the month I got the keys for my room in Amsterdam. So exciting. We (also my parents and brothers, thanks) went to Amsterdam quite a lot to finish to room and to move all my stuff. Furthermore I worked quite a lot but also had my last day there, since I moved and started university. In August I also explored Amsterdam a bit more and wrote about two hotspots in the City, Pluk Amsterdam and Metropolitain.
September was an exciting month. I turned 19 and started university in Amsterdam. So there were some big changes in my life since I moved out. Together with Sabine, I visited Berlin to go to Lollapalooza festival. There were many amazing artists, including the 1975. The city itself was amazing as well. We didn’t have that much time in the city so I would love to go back someday. I also visited Voltt festival in the Netherlands with Fleur which was really fun!
There weren’t any ‘big’ things that happened in October but I did do a lot of fun things. Joella and I met up quite a few time to shoot outfit pictures. One time we shot photos in front of a pink wall. One day, I was invited to visit the new Vascobelo V-Bar in Haarlem and there they taught me how to make a good espresso. In October I also explored the Netherlands a little bit more and went to Volendam, a town close to Amsterdam. Afterwards we went back to Amsterdam and had a delicious dinner at Loetje.
November was filed with fun press days. It’s always lovely too see the new collections and catch up with everyone. In this month I also filmed a video in which I show the interior of my student room. Nothing much has changed so far. Together with Lara and I went to see Bastille perform the Ziggo Dome. It’s amazing to see how much they have grown over the past few years.
Oh well, this month. Ups and downs, a lot of them. It was a very busy month. I worked on a campaign for Swatch and Blokker, had an examen week and went on two trips. One to Newcastle with Sabine, and one to London with Leah. And of course, Sinterklaas and Christmas. It was also the month in which I decided to stop with my study, at least, I’m sure I’m not going to start the second year. So right now I’m trying to figure out what it is I want to do. Overall it was a stressful month, but also a fun one. The trips and fun things I did made me realize that I shouldn’t be studying English Language & Culture. It’s just not the right study for me, so now I’m going to look for something that I do actually like. Let’s just hope I will find something.
So yes, this year started in a good way. Sadly the end of the year wasn’t my happiest period, but it’s a step in the right direction I guess. Now I just need to take my time to figure everything out. Let’s make 2017 a great year!
How was your 2016? Any specific memories? And what are you looking to in 2017?
